Raspi lapdock.jpg

Description

So, I have seen all these AWESOME projects, that use a Raspi in combination with a Motorola Lapdock to build a cool 'open' ARM laptop!

This is of course AMAZINGLY AWESOME, so I want to do the same.

Mini Blog

Today I finally decided to go forward and do this project. So, ordered all the shopping list stuff today, more later ;)

Other People's Efforts

We should _always_ recycle effort!

Even Slashdot says its a good idea!

Connections on the lapdock

  • Female USB 2.0 A
  • Male Micro USB 2.0 B
  • Male Micro HDMI D
  • Charging (the lapdock comes with a charger)

No idea about sound ... I know it has speakers (connected to device over HDMI, no usbaudio ...) but no clue about microphone or headphone plug(s) ..

Shopping List

We need some weird adapters;

A Motorola Lapdock

So there are 3 different models, and it seems that the 'lapdock 500' is _not_ hackerfriendly, but the 2 others are. There might be friendly-maker tricks to apply to this model though ...

Watch out for german lapdocks, as they aren't QWERTY ;)

Micro HDMI D female to HDMI male

I already have a Micro HDMI male to HDMI male cable, which I think i will use in the beginning, but is waaaaay too long.

Come to think of it, let me hunt for a ~20-30cm one ;)

But I don't know if the above solution will have all the right ground cables connected ...

Micro USB 2.0 B female to USB 2.0 male A

This will end up being just a ~27cm cable together :)

Dreams

One thing that would be really awesome, and a good Recyclable Effort item that I would like to be able to offer to other people doing this, is a 3D printable case for the RasPi that actually docks onto the laptop.
