As Idiopolis, we have this super cool army tent at our disposal, but it's getting a bit flimsy, and it is not entirely sure how long it will survive. On top of that, all our party tent have been frankensteined into a mother of all partytents at haxogreen, but unfortunatly it has met its demise at the hand of the weather gods. I believe this provides us with ample arguments to consider a new construction for idiopolis, after all, CCC camp is just around the corner.

Plan

Build a so called 'monkeyhut', which is pretty much the default shelter-construction at Burning Man. It uses relatively little materials with a good amount of space in return.

Design

The basic design according to 'Jeremy':

Bill of Materials

  • tarpaulin:
    • at least 15*10m. like this one for ~110eu
  • pvc-tubing:
    • for the ribs, one every 2 meters. at 10*15 this means ~9 ribs in total. 9*10m = 90m, but most tubes come in 4m length. 2*3+4=102 which means 9*3*4m = 108m. + 18*0.5 = 9m wide tube for the couplings.
    • Cheapest option seems: http://www.pvcbuis.com/pvc-afvoerbuis-glad/ - 27*4m 32mm + 2*4M+1*2m 40mm inc delivery: ~208eu
  • rebar/herrings:
    • the pvc-tubes need to fit over them. about 22*0.5m needed. generally really cheap (<1eu/meter) or free ie.
  • lots and lots of rope (2x16m + 2x 2x25m + 18x0.3m ~= 100m)
  • ..

Cost

It would be nice if we could stay under 300 euros or something.
