If you are looking for a guide for how to install Windows on a virtual machine, click here.

We have a large energy bill, a lot of heat disappears through our current windows (see FLIR pics), so it would be good to do something about this.

Polycarbonate sheets

W can get (free?) polycarbonate sheets via Pokon. They could be mounted against the existing glass windows. Approx measurements 205 x 125 cm.

Alternatively we could consider buying HR+++ triple glass for instance here qjb talked about, they can deliver and install glass for a good price.

A short investigation into options to subsidize the project can be found here isolation-subsidies.

Main room

Measurements below are in centimeters, and are the desired size of the boards to be installed. These are obviously slightly larger than the actual glass surface they will be covering to account for attachment surface.

Left and right are from the viewpoint inside the space, not from the street.

List of steps to undertake

(Simple mockup for now!)

1: measure window dimensions (incl mounting size)

1a: if not sufficient material present: get it to the space and add some headroom.

2: make sure for sufficient work area to do the other steps

3: cut isolation sheets to size after size confirmation (tip: try to make efficient use of the sheets)

4: test fit the sheets

5: pre drill holes in the sheets with foil still attached

6: clean the needed windows to be free of any debris (and fat fingers!)

7: apply the glue in prepariation

8: remove top portion (10cm or so) of the foil and align it with the window

9: screw in the top row of screws

10: slowly pull more foil off from top to bottom (remove stains if created in the progress)

11: now screw the rest of the screws in (top to bottom)

12: once done, remove the other foil coating (faceing building inside)

13: tidy it up?
