A lot of our trash at the space still has value!
Any broken computers, metal racks, etc can be dismantled and reduced to their individual components.
In our basement we collect the various components in separate boxes according to the categories listed at Holland Recycling.
Main categories:
- PCBs without gold (old radios, gadgets, etc.)
- PCBs with gold (PCI cards, etc.)
- Motherboards without ICs (from PCs and such - remove batteries!)
- Motherboards with ICs (some Switches have their CPUs directly on the board)
- Laptop/embedded motherboards (remove batteries!)
- CPUs
- RAM sticks
- "computer cables" (usb, printer, everything tiny gauge, etc.)
- "cable tree" (cable bundles from PSUs, thicker gauge)
- Power/220v cables (cut the connectors and keep separately!)
- PSUs (with the cables removed and sorted)
- Aluminium (heatsinks and some pc case materials)
- Steel and other ferrous materials (heavy/bulky/annoying -> not worth it!)
- Copper (solid material or large inverter spools)
Other categories also exist, check the website for more info.
Are you stuck and not sure what to do? ask dreamer or r3boot.
Once we have enough material (basement is full and enough valuable E-waste has been collected) we will take a load to Holland Recycling. The funds resulting from this will be used to spruce up things in the space.
