TAG Team, bridging the gap between Nerd culture and Geek culture since 2024

On the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month an enthusiastic and well-cultured group of Nurds gathers to watch Anime (Chinese Cartoons😎). There is a large projector in the space, and reasonably comfy sofa's. The TAG-Team decided it was time to use this infrastructure for good and now share their love for Anime on the big screen.

How it works?

  • Go to the nurdspace at 19:00. Bring some food, drinks or weird japanese snacks if you want to.
  • If there's something specific you want to watch bring a USB stick, a device with a HDMI connection or something that can speak chromecast.
  • BYOB (Bring Your Own Blanket) for peak coziness or build a mecha pillow fort out of BLÅHAJ sharks—we don’t judge. 🦈🦈🦈
  • If you're scared of weird Japanese animations you can bring a friend to hold your hand for when it gets too much. This advice also applies to those who are already used to the oftentimes "wild shit" that happens on screen.

Guild Members

Currently all guild members just got reincarnated into this world and are therefore still level one. Members are:

  • Eis-T (lvl. 1)
  • Maggie (lvl. 1)
  • Melan (lvl. 1, but has equipped Plex Server, giving a substantial stat boost)
  • Shadowrider (lvl. 1)
  • Boopatroopa (lvl. 1)
  • Aetios (lvl. 1)
  • Fun (lvl. 1)

21 January 2025: TAG series night

This anime-night took place the day after Blue Monday on a cold and misty night. Somehow this meant that topics such as death, suicide and depression were a recurring theme in the shows we watched. We cured the negative energy with palet-cleansing bananya episodes and amazing Japanese snacks that Aetios brought.

Serial Experiments Lain

This vintage series from either 1998 or 1992 was trippy AF. It turns out everyone was depressed in 1998 but had awesome retro-tech computers. Her dad had like a 8 crt monitor setup and according to Melan gave off a strong "2 chan shitposter energy". There was an especially cool train scene, and the light was done really artistically. Also the parallel between the electricity wires and being uploaded to the cloud once you step out of your earthly life was interesting. The general consensus was that it was too weird and vague. No cats were to be found but her mom basically was a very disenterested cat?

Roy: I want my mind to be uploaded to a propietary server.

Wonder Egg Priority

Another teenage girl with a dead BFF/GF that tries to communicate with her. This very contemporary and modern anime is even trippier than the previous anime. 90% of the story takes place in her dreams which are - like the dreams of every teen girl - very violent and gory.

break

This was [Hutspotmuts]]'s first experience watching Anime. All dreamy death stuff made us kinda hungry so we brought out the snacks. aetios about Eis-T's moshi: Ik vond de mochi al vrij chinees smaken want t komt uit taiwan.

Solo Levelling

Isekai time! though this one didn't feel like Isekai as the main character isn't hit by the Ghibli bus. It is more like a video game world. If GTA and World of Warcraft had a baby. The main character is like an off-brand Kirito from Sword Art Online. The Korean-Japanese setting raised some eyebrows but it explains the rule-heavy, hierarhical nature of the, very well crafted and detailed, world. We watched 2 episodes because there was a cliffhanger in an escape room. There was a god, Sauron was there with an axe. We had to know how they would make it out alive.

Bananya =

This was the highlight of the night. we kept watching Bananya in-between other series because every episode is only 2 minutes and because it is the most non-threatening thing you have ever seen. These are the unedited written down notes that give a perfect wordcloud-like impression of what Bananya is and why it already holds such a special place in our hearts and minds: Goeie voor een avondje lsd. Kleine banana drinkt melk: ka-nya-balism. Smurfin effect. Heel treurig. Banamin zeemeermin. Baby bananya is een ettertje. Nu hebben we allemaal zin in choco bananen.

KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World

This one was so stereotypical Isekai that I had a hard time finding back the title of it. Luckily my pal GPT helped me out: Me: I'm looking for the name of an anime, the genre is isekai, came out in the last 10 years. main character chooses the goddess as companion who wears a blue dress. do you know which one?

ChatGPT said:The anime you're describing sounds like "KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!" (Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!).

In this isekai comedy, the main character, Kazuma Satou, is reincarnated in a fantasy world after dying in a humorous accident. When given the option to choose one item or companion to bring with him, he impulsively picks the goddess Aqua, who wears a blue dress. The show is known for its comedic take on the isekai genre and its quirky characters.

The notes confirm GPT's analysis, yet fails to mention the two most promintently featured aspects of this anime: Boobs. Lisa had some interesting thoughts on this: Vrouwen worden in die wereld met een andere ruggengraat geboren, vandaar dat ze zo voorover gebogen staan. Eis-T added to that: De dames sjouwen ook veel mee daar, en dan bedoel ik natuurlijk die grote zware bieren. This was also where the phrase "Ik ben vincent" was said.

7 January 2025: Movie night

Lemon Demon - The Ultimate Showdown [4K REUPLOAD]

We decided this night's movie to be 5 centimeters per second. The internet archive helped us out to acquire it, but it had a download time of about 20 minutes. The guild chose to spend it on the utmost important youtube content. We some trailers and AMV's we ended up at this ultimate showdown newgrounds classic. It was a blast from the past to see Chuck Norris be relevant. No cats, but godzilla was there so lets call it even.

5 centimeters per second.

This movie was told in 3 parts and was centered around trains. Immediately at the end the following responses were noted down. Suspense is heftig, super cliffhanger.

This movie will forever be remembered by the guild as as "Tranen en Treinen" .

No longer allowed in another world

Interessant, educatief. The depression was the joke.

Usagi drop

The closer of the night was the atmospheric and relaxed Usagi Drop. The pilot establishes the relation of the main character and his aunt. thing is: he's like 35 and his aunt is maybe 10. #OnlyInJapan. It has to be noted this was the best drawn series of the evening. We learned a lot about the Japanese traditions with regards to mourning. Our verdict: Wholesome family funeral fun. Also: Cats > rabbits. Just sayin'.

11 December 2024: Series Night, first Gathering:

The space was incredibly cold that winterday. Like for real its not o.k. how cold it was. Luckily things got heated rather quickly when sitting under the blankets. And having a cosy time with snacks and stuff also helped a lot.

Bakemonogatari

An interesting watch with a lot of different stylings and collages, sligtly creeply but still kinda cute. Too artistic for most of our tastes with all the aesthetic words floating around, but still intruiging and absurdist. Shinobu is cute and possibly - with a high probability - a vampire. Or a cat.

Ghost stories

Random stuff happens but that is ok, the voice acting is where its at. Overly christian but we don't mind, really. we repeatedly were like "did they really say that?" and the answer always was: yes they did. Main baddy turned out to be a cat.

Got reincarnared as a sword

According to Eis-T there's too much spreadsheet in this but that is normal for isekai according to Maggie. Boopatroopa loves it because it has good vibe. The main girl is not only a freed slave, but also - surprisingly - a cat girl. We're starting to see a theme here.

Mashle. Magic meets muscle

The setting was great. One punch man meets harry potter. Very food obsessed. Shadowrider told Boopatroopa something about something. Only anime so far without a cat. Lack of cute girls in pilot episode has to be noted. But it teaches you how a door works, so that is something.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury

The iconic and thoroughly neo-tokio world of Gundam is not to be missed on a first TAG gathering. The one we watched felt very modern, the gundams now have docking stations for their smartphones. It was pretty epic and overtly anti-capitalist, but somehow still cute. The plot twist in the end of the pilot came out of nowhere and we were all very, very excited to continue watching and find out where things go next. The lack of cats did not bother us much this time.

Keijo!!!!!!

The final episode of the night was an over-the-top sports anime. It provided equal parts funny and horny, and provided us with many LOL and WTF moments. Boopatroopa suspiciously left halfway the episode for some alone time. We were surprised how well rounded (pun intended) a lot of the action and story was in this anime. One of the girls in the team of our protagonist was arguably a cat.

Future gatherings

There will all kinds of things in the future. Thematic nights, movie nights, abridged versions, marathon sessions, try not to laugh challenges, you name it. More info will follow when the TAG Team decides to. If not, just show up on the 1st or 3rd Tuesday and surprise yourself (and us). Hint: you can just claim a night to be the curator/host by editing this section and putting your name, idea and ideally the lineup of anime content behind one of the following dates:

February 4: TAG movie night

February 18: TAG series night

March 4: TAG movie night

March 8: TAG series night

April 1: TAG movie night
